Licenses

ShotWork is built on other people's work. This page lists every third-party component with its license. Help › About ShotWork… shows the full license text of the components ShotWork includes, on its Licenses tab.

Included with ShotWork

Component License Notes
PySide6 (Qt for Python) LGPLv3 ShotWork's interface. The Qt libraries are separate files beside ShotWork, not built into it, and can be replaced.
libmpv, on Windows LGPLv2.1+, with the ffmpeg inside it under LGPLv3 Plays video in the viewer. Included in the Windows installer as its own file beside ShotWork, at one pinned version; its source is published at shotwork-runtime. On macOS it is fetched instead; see Fetched with your permission.
python-mpv A thin binding whose obligations are libmpv's own The link between ShotWork and libmpv.
OpenTimelineIO Apache-2.0 Writes timeline exports.
otio-fcp-adapter Apache-2.0 Writes Final Cut Pro XML timelines.
librosa ISC Finds the beats in songs. Its own dependencies are all under permissive licenses, apart from soundfile and soxr, listed here.
soundfile, with libsndfile LGPL-2.1-or-later Reads audio files. Loaded as a separate library.
soxr, with libsoxr LGPL-2.1-or-later Resamples audio. Kept as its own replaceable file.
pydantic Apache-2.0 Data validation.
platformdirs MIT Finds the per-user folders on each platform.
cryptography Apache-2.0 or BSD-3-Clause Checks the signature on your license file.
mcp, the Model Context Protocol SDK MIT Lets an AI assistant connect to ShotWork. Its own dependencies are all under permissive licenses.
7-Zip (7z.exe and 7z.dll only) LGPL-2.1-or-later, with BSD-3-Clause for one part Unpacks the libmpv download on Windows, and nothing else.

Fetched with your permission

Component License Where it comes from
ffmpeg, with ffprobe LGPL-2.1-or-later on Windows, BtbN's LGPL build. On macOS, the license of the build evermeet.cx serves Windows: BtbN's FFmpeg builds, at one pinned version, served from shotwork-runtime. macOS: evermeet.cx.
libmpv, on macOS LGPLv2.1+ media-kit's libmpv-darwin-build. On Windows it comes with the installer, listed under Included with ShotWork.

Neither is part of ShotWork's own files. Each is fetched the first time it is needed, and only after you choose Download. See The components.

The downbeat engine

Installed from Settings › Downbeat Engine… into a folder of its own, and removed with it:

Python (CPython), from python-build-standalone PSF License 2.0 Runs the engine, in a folder of its own. Fetched only when the engine is installed, and removed with it.
beat_this MIT, for its code and its trained model Finds downbeats. Its optional post-processing step depends on models licensed for non-commercial use only, and ShotWork never runs it.
PyTorch (torch and torchaudio), CPU-only build BSD-3-Clause Runs beat_this.
tqdm MPL-2.0 and MIT Used by beat_this.
einops MIT Used by beat_this.
rotary-embedding-torch MIT Used by beat_this.
soundfile and soxr LGPL-2.1-or-later The same packages as in the first table, installed again in the engine's folder.

Used to build ShotWork

Component License Notes
Inno Setup Inno Setup License (zlib style) Builds the Windows installer. Its license allows commercial use with no fee, and the installer keeps its copyright notices. Not part of ShotWork itself.

This documentation site

Built with MkDocs (BSD-2-Clause) and Material for MkDocs (MIT), with mkdocs-glightbox (MIT) for enlarging pictures. It is set in Inter and JetBrains Mono, both under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
