Troubleshooting

Each entry below starts from what you saw: a message, quoted the way ShotWork shows it, or a behavior. Find yours in the tables and follow the link.

Opening files

You see	Entry
Source not found, or shots hatched in red	Source not found when opening shot selects
Could not open shot selects or Could not open reel	A file will not open
Shots you have marked missing from a reel's picker or the Library window	New shots are not showing

Video and components

You see	Entry
Download libmpv before any window, or Could not start	ShotWork asks for libmpv, or will not start
Could not read video or Could not load video	A video will not open
Variable frame rate detected	A video has a variable frame rate
A flat color, or no picture, where a thumbnail should be	Thumbnails are missing
ShotWork's window gone, with no message	ShotWork closed unexpectedly

Exporting

You see	Entry
Export unavailable in the File menu, Not ready, or Over budget	A reel will not export
Restricted clips	Export asks about restricted clips
A failed line in Batch Export, or Could not export	A clip or a reel failed to export
(encoder not found) after a preset or format	A format is marked encoder not found
Filename template refusing what you typed	The filename template was refused

The assistant, music and templates

You see	Entry
An assistant that cannot see ShotWork, or Could not update the settings	The assistant cannot see your library
"Downbeats unavailable for this track. Showing beats only.", or an engine that will not install	Downbeats are unavailable
Could not open template, Could not load frame, or a template item you cannot click	A template will not open or behaves oddly

When nothing here helps

Note what you did just before, and copy the exact message, word for word. Then send a report: Report a problem explains what it carries and what it leaves out. If ShotWork closed by itself, the next report picks that crash up on its own.
